Executive Director & Chief Curator
Vicky Chainey Gagnon
I am from the Eastern Townships in Quebec and came to Campbell River in 2017 after many years working as a curator and arts administrator in Sherbrooke, Quebec City, and St. John’s. My research interests look at contemporary art practices and community outreach in an expanding field.
Operations Manager Alison Liebel
I’ve always liked how art is an expression of the way we experience our surroundings and is one of the meaningful ways we connect to each other. That’s why I always stop in at the local art gallery and museum of whatever town I’m visiting. I am delighted to join the gallery team and be part of creating that experience for others at CRAG.
Curator of Contemporary Art Jenelle Pasiechnik
I am originally from Calgary, but have been living on the Island for nine years. I deeply love the culture of respect for the environment and each other that many live by in this beautiful place, and am grateful to call it my home.
The focus of my graduate studies research at UVic centered on contemporary artists of West Asia living abroad in the world, and the need to open the discourse of art to accept alternative narratives of cultural production globally. I hope to continue that interest as a curator in Campbell River by focusing on giving space and voice to under-represented communities.
Assistant Curator of Engagement Stacey Oakley programs(at)crartgallery.ca
I’ve bounced between the East and West coasts for most of my life and spent a number of years in Campbell River growing up. I studied art history and social justice studies at UVic and also cultural resource management, which I did by distance in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador while working in education and writing novels. However, the opportunity to work with CRAG and all of the exciting projects they have coming up brought me back and I’m looking forward to bringing the skills I’ve learned to back the community.
Art Educator – Super Saturday
I am a graduate from Emily Carr University with a Fine Art Bachelors Degree and would describe myself as a creative enthusiast. With eleven years professionally working with children through various mediums – including face painting and Henna, I am also homeschooling my child from Grade 7 to 10. I find joy in mentoring, inspiring and encouraging creativity through these mediums and beyond and look forward to sharing my skills and appreciation for the arts.
Gallery Assistant Heather Hughson
I primarily work for the Campbell River Arts Council – a position that has brought me to the heart of the art community in Campbell River. Because I enjoy the interaction with artists so much I thought it would be a good fit to help out in the CRAG Gift Shop. See you there!
