Executive Director & Chief Curator
Vicky Chainey Gagnon
I am from the Eastern Townships in Quebec and came to Campbell River in 2017 after many years working as a curator and arts administrator in Sherbrooke, Quebec City, and St. John’s. My research interests look at contemporary art practices and community outreach in an expanding field.
I’ve always liked how art is an expression of the way we experience our surroundings and is one of the meaningful ways we connect to each other. That’s why I always stop in at the local art gallery and museum of whatever town I’m visiting. I am delighted to join the gallery team and be part of creating that experience for others at CRAG. I look forward to meeting you at the CRAG.
Curator of Contemporary Art
I am originally from Calgary, but have been living on the Island for nine years. I deeply love the culture of respect for the environment and each other that many live by in this beautiful place, and am grateful to call it my home.
The focus of my graduate studies research at UVic centered on contemporary artists of West Asia living abroad in the world, and the need to open the discourse of art to accept alternative narratives of cultural production globally. I hope to continue that interest as a curator in Campbell River by focusing on giving space and voice to under-represented communities.
Assistant Curator of Engagement

I am pleased to have an opportunity to bridge the art in the gallery to the community through some really interesting, engaging and thought provoking activities lined up by the gallery. I look forward to seeing you at a school tour, Super Saturday or one of our workshops.
I am completing my bachelor’s degree in Art History & Visual Studies at the University of Victoria with a minor in Hispanic Studies. My research has centred around Latin American art and architecture. My love of art, reading and travel has led me to pursue a career in curation. I am excited to be in Campbell River for the summer and to be joining the amazing CRAG team to learn about all aspects of running a lively public art gallery.
I primarily work for the Campbell River Arts Council – a position that has brought me to the heart of the art community in Campbell River. Because I enjoy the interaction with artists so much I thought it would be a good fit to help out in the CRAG Gift Shop. See you there!
